Shrewsbury shape dish by H&R Daniel circa 1827. White background with hand painted botannical study in the centre. Vine sprigging decorated green, buff stylised flowerheads linked with  interlaced gilded circle pattern.  Pattern number 4339. Size 9 1/4" to handle height. Height 1 7/8ths. Condition overall very good. No chips or restoration to the front. There is an old staple repair on the back covering a glazing crack, which is barely visible.
I believe this dessert service originally belonged to the Earl of Glasgow, who, when the tinker appeared at the servants door to repair the china, gave him the whole set to staple, even the perfect pieces! It was fashionable at the time for one's finest porcelain to be sporting staples - to display wealth.  We have more H&R Daniel porcelain in stock...
